Product Teardown: MyGate

MyGate is a community management app that provides real-time updates and notifications as well as all the basic features required for the smooth functioning of a gated society — visitor management, complaint resolution, vehicle management, facility booking, etc.

The app operates in the B2B space where its primary buyers are the gated communities and its users are the residents of these buildings. The app was started in 2016 with the aim of ensuring security to the residents through an all-in-one app. MyGate has digitized the entire experience with a low cognitive load on the users and aims to onboard 60k gated communities in the coming months.

Value Proposition

  • Security as the residents are notified before-hand about the arrival of a visitor

Underserved Needs

  • I ordered a birthday cake for my flatmate, but when the delivery boy arrived at the gate, a notification was sent to all my flatmates, thereby ruining the surprise
  • I am an extremely forgetful person. I tend to keep my keys in the room before leaving and it becomes a major issue when I come back from office. I need to stand outside until my flatmates come back
  • My sister was on the lookout for a flat in the nearby locality. We reached out to brokers, FB groups, etc. Nothing materialized. Finally, after 2 months, she found a flat in my locality. Had we known there was a vacancy, it would have been easier and saved us all the time
  • My daughter had to get her documents attested by a gazetted officer. We were not able to find anyone in the locality. From the guard, we came to know that a person staying in the next block was an officer. Had we known earlier, it could have saved us all the time
  • I am only comfortable in Hindi. So when I moved to Bangalore, most of the maids here were not well versed in the language and as such there would always be a communication issue between us
  • “Whenever the notices are published in the app, it would be nice if it has multilingual support as I am not comfortable in English”
